TyeDee Bin is Official Animal Resistant Bin for South Bruce Peninsula PDF Print E-mail

July 2008

SB MayorTyeDee Bin is now the official Animal Resistant Garbage Container for the Township of South Bruce Peninsula.  As a part of their long term waste management strategy, South Bruce needed to divert the amount of waste that was going to their only landfill site.  The only way to do this was to provide curbside waste collection for all South Bruce residents and cottage owners.  The only problem was, "What to do about the bears and other nuisance wildlife?"  When Wray Lamont, Chair of the South Bruce Waste Management Committee saw TyeDee Bin, he knew that he had found the answer they were looking for.  He now knew that curbside pick-up was now possible because the bears will not getting into the garbage that is stored in a TyeDee Bin.  In addition to solving the nuisance wildlife issues associated with curbside pick-up, TyeDee Bin has also saved money for the township, which they have been able to pass on to the taxpayer in the form of a subsidy to whichever resident chooses to purchase TyeDee Bin.

TyeDee Bin Tested by Grizzlies PDF Print E-mail

September 2008

Northwood Grizzly1TyeDee Bin took two of their bins to the Northwood Zoo in Pat Foran with GrizzliesSeagrave, ON to be tested by 4 large grizzly bears.  CTV's Consumer Alert reporter, Pat Foran, covered the story.

On a hot, summer day, we placed dead chickens (a grizzly's favorite) in each of the bins, and then let the bears give the bins a real test.  For 1/2 hour the bears knocked the bins around, rolled them over, bit them, and jumped on them, yet could not get into TyeDee Bin.  After the test was over, we fed the bears the chickens, and then inspected the bins.  There was no structural damage to the bins at all, only some minor scratches.

TyeDee Bin will keep even grizzly bears out of your trash, they will do even better against black bears, raccoons, and other nuisance animals.

This is my first time to write a contribution to our blog.  As the use of TyeDee Bin has grown, I thought it would be good to let our website users know about the story of TyeDee Bin.
